Butter Masala Popcorn

Who doesn't like movie night? Spice it up with this buttery, sweet, savoury and masala popcorn. Grab our new Toasted Oak cider to sip and you have the perfect pair. Now, the hard part- what movie are we watching?

  • 1/3 cup popping corn
  • 1/2 tbsp canola or vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2-1 tsp salt, more or less to taste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp red chili powder more or less to taste

  1. Heat a non-stick pan on medium high heat.
  2. Add popping corn kernels without any fat and cover. Slowly allow them to pop. While popping, hold the pan over the stove for indirect heat. Hover it close to the stove top but not touching to avoid burning. When the popping stops remove the popcorn in a bowl and set aside.
  3. Allow the pan to cool a bit and lower the temperature to medium-low. Have the bowl of popcorn next to you so that when the spices have tempered the popcorn can get added immediately.
Add the oil and butter to pan followed by the spices, salt, and sugar. Give it a quick stir and add in popcorn. Slowly toss in the spices and pour back into the bowl. Keep tossing until the bright yellow color has coated the popcorn.
