Scottish Shortbread

Howling Moon Spiced Cherry Cider pairs great with holiday cookies.  We found this recipe in Nana Scotty's recipe rolodex alongside a tin of tiny creative cookie cutters. We hope it inspires you take some time to enjoy the art of baking and decorating this holiday season. 

Ingredients - makes 3 dozen small cookies

  • 2 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup softened and cubed butter

Method

  1. Cream the butter and sugar
  2. Sift the flour into the creamed butter and sugar mixture
  3. Work into a smooth dough
  4. Roll on floured surface 1/2" thick
  5. Cut with fancy shapes
  6. Place on lightly greased or parchment lined sheet about 1" apart
  7. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes until golden brown
  8. Transfer to wire rack to cool
  9. Optional - before baking decorate with red and green cherries copped fine to look like holly
  10. Optional - allow to cool and decorate with icing and sprinkles
